Living Like a Local: Our Amazing Two-Week Stay in a Cozy Air BNB in Cyprus

Every summer, we usually go for an Air BnB style villa somewhere and try to coincide it with a sailing week (Sailing

a Catamaran with friends). I.e Croatia, Mallorca or at some stage Greece.

This summer, we skipped the boating and simply went for Cyprus as it's been a VERY long time since I've been (errm, Ayia Napa, Ayia Napa! Yeah, too old for that now).

We chose Peyia, which is basically the Paphos side of the island, with 2 minutes down the road being the infamous Coral Bay.

Short Version: We would definitely not hesitate to go back, to either Peyia/Coral Bay or the Villa itself. We booked it via Air BnB (Cocoon Ocean Villa) and the host family were 5* in all things communication and helping/buying extra things we merely mentioned or recommended.

The Villa itself is slightly too remote to enable walking anywhere of interest, but that can also be a positive depends how you view things. It's best to get a car, and we made use of that exploring the local area and even taking a trip to the north coast one day.

We split our time eating in and out 50/50. We really enjoyed doing a local shop which enabled us to live home-from-home, relaxing whereas we can finish up for the day when we like, when it suits us as family and eating at a convenient time.

When eating out, the restaurant choices were good. There was a couple of stand-out places, including Alexandra's Steak and Fish place and the Italian (Dolce Vita) at the end of the main high street.

Then you have even more upmarket places which you can taxi or drive to beside the sea, namely Oniro. This is a must!

The Positives:

  • Villa was remote enough to be away from disturbances/noise. Very private.

  • Villa was large, we had a spare bedroom unused! Clean and modern. Virtually perfect in fact.

  • Hosts were super helpful and friendly.

  • The cleaners; they came once a week and Nancy wanted to take them home! They were a couple of Fillipino ladies and were so thorough, they left the place immaculate.

  • Everything in the Villa is included that you'd ever need including a Nutribullet, Coffee machine, Washing facilities and Air Con which isn't on any silly timers like some countries/hosts, and in return, we gave respect to the electricity bills by not over using it needlessly in the day when we were outside.

  • Location, 2 min drive to Coral Bay.

  • Cheap Taxi's if you don't want to drive in the evenings but enjoy a bottle of wine with dinner.

  • Clean and daily maintained pool, Heated slightly or just naturally heated as it was so hot in August.

  • 1hr from a large water park, or 20 mins from a smaller one.

  • Layout of the Villa was perfect over 3 floors. Ground bedroom (double) unused, as this was the only one without an ensuite but mid floor is the master bed with ensuite, upstairs is two twin rooms both with ensuites.

Negatives

  • BBQ outside could be better. It was a cheap/basic metal stand bbq with a small grill. Not easy to clean grills and fixed tray so didn't bother using it. A nice Weber kettle or rectangular coal grill would be ideal in that brickwork section where the existing one is.

  • Light up the entrance better/improve the initial road entrance as its hard to find in the dark, and not that appealing (It might have been improved already but it didn't impact our stay, its more a recommendation).
